A thin zipper crust from valley bottom to ridge top made for fast fun turns in the burn.
First time in this area this winter and was surprised by the variability in the height of snow above treeline. In sheltered areas I probed 140 cm. But in wind exposed areas much shallower. I did a profile in the alpine at 1950m on a S aspect. The HS was only 115 cm composed of mostly facets. CTM 15 Resistant Planer down 30 under most recent storm snow, (now over a week old). More significantly CTH 22 Sudden Collapse down 80 on large basal facets. Chose to not ski anything steep and unsupported in the alpine. Stayed in deeper snowpack terrain as much as possible and it was a super fun descent.
