No surface hoar but plenty of wind

<p>We started the day off happy that it wasn't -20 like yesterday, but as we got up to treeline the wind made itself known. It was coming from different directions, scouring and obscuring visibility with blowing snow. It made for awful skiing because it was hard on top and soft underneath. Sometimes our skis floated...sometimes they stopped dead on the bottom. We didn't find any signs of the surface hoar in this location, nor any cracking or whumpfing. We did one lap and decided to go for a trail ride on our sleds instead. Sledding quality was pretty good where it was sheltered from the wind, enough to get on edge atleast.
