Curtain Call

Andrew Abel, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Climbed curtain call December 17, 2020. The snow on the slope beneath the climb was pretty shallow with about 25 cm of loose faceted snow covering the shale with small isolated pockets of windslab. We approached via the left hand side and broke through the trees right next the climb to minimize overhead hazard. It was-1 during the day with pretty significant cloud cover present all day. Small gusts of winds above the climb all day and was also windy when we topped out but nothing unbearable. Enough to be concerned about windslabs forming though above the climb 1st pitch climbed really well but the middle was wet so chose a drier line on the right side that required pulling over a couple ice roofs but the pro was decent and ice quality was good but required lots of cleaning. 2nd pitch was in good shape. We climbed the right hand side of the pillar. We didnt notice any big fracture lines on the pillar but there were small cracks at the top near the rock connection points that looked like they had healed up already. The pillar was fat, wet on the backside but felt stable while climbing. There were a couple of loud settling sounds while it was being led but that was about it. Ice quality was good but the top section when it levels out had a lot of dinner plating
