Quick Observation

Traveled from 1300-2400m in Marriott. At treeline 12-15cm of light facetted grains lay over a mfcr. Surface hoar to 12mm on top. Conditions were calm and cold to start with -18C at hwy at 0700. In sunny asp the temps soared during the day with pinwheeling occuring bt 1200hrs. Evidence of large cycle last week with crowns from 1900 to 2200m on many aspects, some having run to sz2.5. Only new activity were some windslabs to sz1.0 failing in steep terrain just below ridgetops (all asp), and dry loose sluffs where skiers were trying steeper lines. Diurnal temp fluctuations will be an issue the next few days. 180106mfcr down 100-130cm and covered by a thick layer of facets. Recommend ski crampons in the trees. Came upon one tourer with a minor wrist injury from sliding back while trying to climb treebomb crust in mod steep trees.
