Quick Observation

Skiied over to the Ledge tree runs to see what we could find. Here is what we found: From the gondola to about the top of the switchbacks at the end of the basin there is a thick punchy crust below 15+ cm of new snow that decreases with elevation. We found 5 small crowns on isolated steep N and W aspects on the approach. It looked like the new snow was running on the rain crust on steeper terrain. We toured over to the 'Ledge trees' and found a thin wind crust in open areas between the trees that sits on top of light powder. We didn't dig a profile but pole probes couldn't find a rain crust below the new snow. The wind crust on top is so thin that skiing isn't actually that bad and in dense trees, it's almost entirely gone. Skiing out Home Run was enjoyable and there aren't any holes in the creek. A notable mention - Early in the day we passed to guys on their way to take a look at Exit Gully. We found them at the end of the day and they ended up retreating down Home Run. They tested the entrance and didn't like what they found so they bailed. Good job, guys.
