On Thursday afternoon and night Marriot Basin received 5cm of new snow overlying moist surfaces up to 1900m on all aspects. The powerful April sun caused rollerballs and loose wet avalanches which were easy to propagate LW on most slopes entraining surface snow. Low down the snowpack is still healthy and the travel is good. Travel on the FSR is becoming more tricky as the cross ditches are melting out and pools are forming, but they are all still well covered by snow and should be for another week or two depending on temperatures.
Snowpack in this region as presented is looking simple. Only surface instabilities of note at this time. Over 4m of snow remains at the hut and most alpine features have smooth cover. Cornices are very large and looming over many ski lines.
