Quick Observation
Super variable conditions where we skied. Wind loaded areas on top of melt freeze crust and icy wind scouered areas making it challenging to ski. Low visibility, light snow, high southwest winds. Pit: south facing, 15 degrees below tree line, sheltered area. Snow depth 150cm. Two main melt freeze crusts: one at 20cm and one at 30cms. Also a persistent deep layer at 95 cm that was triggered on shovel sheer. Conducted 2 compression tests: Test 1: E6 sudden collapse at 20cm of fluffy top layer. Test 2: E5 sudden collapse at 20cm. H6 résistent planar 30cm on melt freeze crust. New snow is not bonding well to melt freeze crust. Snowpack quite consistent and stable below melt freeze crust. Snow was quite heavy to ski.
