Bow Summit Bowl & South Shoulder Tree Chutes

Carefully stepped out into the Bow Summit bowl this morning. A few rock sharks still hidden, but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of turns this early in the season. Also, skied the southern most tree chute and was able to pick our way through the lower trees to the flats by the Bow River with a bit of side slipping and careful tree/twig/log navigation.

Ski cut a small Size 1 pocket on an unsupported convex roll by rocks. Produced a loose dry avalanche on a NE aspect and ran about 8m. Observed 1-2 loose dry Size 2 avalanche debris paths right next to each other that originated out of steep rocky features above, possibly occurring from the wind event yesterday, but hard to say as the winds did a good job of concealing the time the event occurred.

Scattered to broken clouds throughout the morning with strong gusts of wind from the Southerly direction. Observed ridgetop winds above the Flower & Stem and across the valley at Sub Observation and Cirque peak, tapering off in the early afternoon.
