Snowpack

sorry for multiple posts - the system would only post the tab i was on when i hit submit even though the other tabs has been filled in... We travelled up from the road and hit an abrupt transition from low density snow to wind slab under power at about 1000 m. We dug a couple of pits at 1030 and made several obs. We had an inconsistent result on the new snow/facets at 13 cms. 2 out of 8 compression tests. We had consistent hard failures (CTH3) on top of the wind slab. Looked like it was surface hoar with new snow on top of it. No Rb results on this layer but we did manage to get it to react when we overloaded it with a 2 person jump - unresistant and uneven. Having said that we moved a little bit higher on the slope into steeper incline to do this Rb test and the site was a bit more wind exposed than the CT site and the surface hoar was likely less present because of this. The depth hoar is well developed and forms a 30 cms layer at ground but we did not get any reactions to tests on this layer.
