Quick Observation

Mid-afternoon the weather picked up. High winds from the North changed to SW and in a matter of 1.5 hours the snow went from unconsolidated powder to wind slab. A small size 1 "soft" wind slab was triggered on a NE slope around 1850m. Snow moved at trail breakers feet and stopped and then seconds later the slope above and to the side then fractured. Crown was 20cm. Fracture plane at trigger location was 30cm deep. No crust at that elevation. 0 involved in actual slide. Slope that failed was a small 35 degree slope that was well supported. The slide stopped on the lower angle slopes just below it.
