Quick Observation

Overall, no major signs of instability where we were. We wen't up to 2000m on mainly N-NW and SW aspects. There was some wind effect at tree line and in the alpine with soft slabs starting to form on Saturday. We didn't do any in depth snow investigation, but small informal tests through the weekend seem to confirm the info that we already have. The snowpack is still pretty thin. The top layer of storm/wind slab still shows signs of planar results where we tried to push, stomp or pull on it. Mid snow pack felt nicely firm and cohesive under probing, but its obviously sitting on a thick layer of facets and depth hoar. We could also feel some subtle sun effect on solar slopes from the short periods of clearing that we got. There seems to be more skier traffic in places that are usually pretty quiet. We also avoided skiing down to valley bottom to avoid the last 100m to 200m of alder bashing. The more dense and supportive powder makes the travel bellow tree line quite nice and easy to explore different and further areas and is fast enough for some fun skiing in lower angle terrain.
