Sparwood SAR at McDermott Basin

Sparwood SAR spent 4 days at McDermott Cabin for their WinterEx training. There were many weather and avalanche observations made as well as a snow profile. Fantastic snow conditions and 39cm of new snow whilst at the cabin. Skiing and snowmobiling was limited to simple terrain given avalanche hazard and continued snowfall.

Multiple size 1-2 avalanches observed. Generally 20-50cm deep. All avalanches observed seemed to have been during the storm on March 4th.

2024-2-3 MFcr found 130cm deep. All observations made above this layer. Our tests were unable to penetrate this layer. No propagation observed during ECT
