Quick Observation
Afternoon CT demo from our instructor, resulted in a CTE within the storm snow. We noted a distinct crust layer from the atmospheric river early this month. And above that about 50-70 cm of recent and light snow that became noticeably denser around 20 cm deep. During the test, the pack fractured around 30 cm depth with a somewhat flat fracture surface. This fracture occured after a few light wrist taps.(CTE) . The early December crust broke irregularly after considerable efforts with elbow taps. CTM-CTH. this layer wasn't so concerning today but could develop into a persistent weak layer. Winds were pretty tame. Visibly was volatile. We enjoyed a couple pitches of fun powder on our way out, while steering clear of any overhead hazards. Shout out to Canada West AST course.
