Attempted Mt Victoria today but bailed at 3160m at the boot pack transition due to significant snow and marginal visibility that simply didn’t leave any margin. We were concerned that a loose dry would be enough for a jump over the seracs and partner got hit by a very small sluff that quickly cemented the decision. We were also surprised by the amount of snow from 2500m upward - ski pen was at least 40-50cm. Probed way over 3m on the glacier although we did see a few cracks here and there. Enjoyed knee deep turns in loose unconsolidated pow with the occasional face shot until about 2500m. Things changed quickly from 2500m to 2100m (tea house)where we found 10-15 on top of the MFCr that skied surpassingly well and fast. No significant obs during the day - but we didn’t see much either ! No solar input, minimal winds although winds picked up on the lake at 2pm. Didn’t need ski crampons and never took out boot crampons nor axes either. Fast travel on the lake watching tourists post hole in runners.
