Today in Cold Feet we did not observe any avalanches.
We toured up to 2150 m and dug a pit on a SW facing slope. The snowpack was 210 cm deep. We found soft snow in the top 30-40 cm of the snowpack, with a supportive crust underneath. We had no results when we did our extended column test.
The morning brought mild temperatures ( -3 at the staging area) and overcast skies. We assumed the fog and clouds were going to linger all day but we were pleasantly surprised to see the sun poke out mid-day. At ridgetop, the wind was calm and it reached a high of -2. Pretty close to perfect conditions in our books!
Overall, it was a great day made better by running into old friends in the backcountry and making new friends in the parking lot. We had a great ski down, and were greeted by freshly groomed trails on our way back.
