Quick Observation
Great tour on Log Cabin mountain. We were above the valley fog with good visibility and light variable winds. 5 cm of light fresh snow on top of the last storm of 30 cm cakier snow made for nice skiing. Snow is more affected by wind at higher elevations; thick wind slabs on north aspect are now buried and a we found a newer softer wind slab from reverse loading in last 24 hours. We dug a profile above treeline on a NE aspect and found 140 cm snow depth with 35 cm of recent snow on a well-settled rounded midpack. At the base, there is an early season crust 30 cm from the ground with the bottom 25 cm are small facets. We are gaining confidence the snowpack is settling with time since the last storm and the mid pack is relatively strong given that we had no significant test results.
