Dug a pit at 4500 feet in elevation with a 39 degree incline with a north aspect. Very strong wind today with heavy drifting. Minus 16 degrees celsius. Two real hard melt - freeze crusts about 5 cm thick, one is 50 cm down and one is 70 cm down. We were getting reactions in the 70cm down in the hard range. Did an extended column test and it would fracture in the hard range but did not propagate across the column. Watch for wind slabs in the alpine because of the heavy drifting that is happening. Foot penetration was 55 cm and HS was 230. Did a number of compression tests and got: CTE 3 D15SC CTH 24 D70SP CTH 26 D70SP ECTN 26 D70RP
