It turned out to be a surprisingly beautiful day up Torpy with 8cm of soft new snow and calm sunny weather. Both the skiing and sledding were pretty fun, with the little bit of new snow making all the difference. We dug a couple of pits on a northwest facing slope in open trees to see if we could find any buried surface hoar layers, but weren't able to locate any. We did notice many many glide cracks in the area, on all aspects and elevation bands, some of which had partially released already. We gave any slope with these cracks a wide berth, there was plenty of great riding to be found elsewhere.
