AST 1 Training Day

AST 1 training day!! Spent the day below the tree line on mellow slopes. The weather was warm with poor visibility in the morning and increased visibility in the afternoon. No signs of recent slides. Temperature was consistent throughout the day and light flurries began around 1-2 pm. Layer of fairly coarse hoar frost observed on snow surface. Several test pits exposed 30-40cm thick layer of storm deposit on top of more compact snow. Storm layer was easily impacted with a fist. Shovel compression test showed good snow pack with no significant failures after 30 strikes.
