Heavy snow (and I'm assuming relatively cold alpine temps) over the last week has resulted in a very low density but deep snow pack around the Wendy Thompson hut (WTH) resulting in very hard trail breaking conditions as well as some early season hazards (deep tree wells, holes around logs and boulders, creeks not bridged)
Skis and snowshoes penetrating 40-60cm consistently from lower marriot lake elevation to WTH.
We were unable to ski during our trip but did observe slide debris on South Western aspects visible from the hut
A quick cut/ visual of the snowpack shows consistent low density snow throughout the snowpack from last weeks storm, with some areas on the South side of the basin showing a more cohesive wind slab being formed about 20cm deep.
