Two skiers triggered avalanche on Rainbow Mountain. One skier rode it down for about 100m but stayed fully above the snow. Other skier buried up to waist near trees. Another party of skiers across the valley came to check in on us and also caller SAR (Thanks for looking out for us!). Original objective that day was Rainbow Mountain but turned back after encountering whoomfing and shooting cracks. Decided to ski trees instead. But missed/ignored the following warning signs: (1) Clear day with afternoon sunshine baking the slope (2) Signs of wind loading (3) Deeper buried layers.
