Yesterday storm did not deliver champagne powder to Mount Washington. After digging a quick test pit at 1400m on a north shaded slope, we discovered 40cm of storm snow. Of the 40cm, the bottom 30 seemed to have fallen as wet snow that froze, forming a firm layer supportive to skiis with 10cm dry powder on top. Steep and convex slopes in the area skiied great with sloughing of the top layer only. Below 1200m was a frozen skating rink. Logging road travel slow due to many bent over alders.
