Elk butter
Vancouver Island

It was off to Elk today to assess the weekend's gift delivery from Ullr. The snow began just past the 3km mark on the road, and quickly got deep enough for smooth travel. We were happy to find 15-40 cm of new snow sitting on the December 8 crust, and while there had definitely been some wind transport, the quality of the snow was delightful. No cracking, whoompfing, or wind slabs were found at our location. In our snowpit around 1600m, we found unconcerning moderate progressive results in the middle of the storm snow with no results occuring at the level of the crust. With this in mind, we headed down for some dreamy turns, smooth like skiing down soft butter.
