Mountain Conditions Report

I spent the last week in the mountains of the Cascades and Inland South Coast areas

Mar 10th:
Log Ck, West of Kanaka Bar; this area is in the transitional Coast /Interior climatic zone. The higher Peaks in this area are glaciated and the valleys are deep. Old logging roads penetrate deep into the overgrown valleys.

The snowpack on this drier side of the Coast Mountains was measured at 250 - 300cm at Tree-line, with mid-day temps of -7 with broken skies, flurries, and gusty NW winds. Very good skiing in sheltered North aspect bowls with progressive resistance from Fist to 1 finger, in top 50cm. Mid and lower pack appeared strong. No recent avalanche activity and modest cornices.
