Today was a bit of a bust access-wise. There is still very little snow in the valley bottom north of Sparwood making travel difficult. Our high point today was 1800 m firmly in below treeline terrain. There was 10 cm of new low-density snow accumulated through the storm, this new snow is falling on a heavily faceted snowpack. The December 23 melt-freeze crust is down 35 cm and we were seeing small dry loose avalanches on steep features involving this fluffy snow and facets. It remains chilly -17 °C for most of the day with light easterly winds.
