Wendy Thompson Approach

We skied the approach to the Wendy Thompson hut today under an overcast sky. Travel on the road was thin with many exposed creek crossings (8+). Travel past the end of the road and headwall was thin/grim with more exposed creek crossings and log hopping. Conditions in this area on the ski out were very challenging. Snow quality improved significantly between 1500m and 1600m where we lost the refrozen layer. We noticed surface hoar development through the meadows and glide cracks on SE aspects above the lake. HS at the hut was around 1m-1.2m. Still quite bouldery up high in the basin.
