Quick Observation

Overall really good riding quality on northern slopes or even W or E aspects with tree coverage. Sunny aspects were very sun affected from the last couple days. Probably would be corn snow in the heat of the day but otherwise it was a solid crust strong enough to support body weight.

Weather

Sunny all day. Northern aspects didn't see any sun. Winds were blowing 50-60km/h from N on ridge tops but very light breeze down lower.

Snowpack

Dug a pit on a 40 degree slope. NE aspect of a northern facing bowl. Compression test had a Resistant Planar fracture at 25cm down during the medium loading on what appeared to be buried surface hoar. Did a Propagation test and there was no propagation at all in this weak layer. The block slid once the saw cut 100% through. Noted one other layer of concern about 55cm down. It finally fractured mid-way through the hard blows. Fracture was a Progressive Compression and it only crossed the block after the top 30-35cm of snow were destroyed/compressed earlier in the test. In other words the layer fractured finally when it was only about 20-25cm below the shovel.
