We went to Fraser Peak and there was absolutely no visibility. We stayed in simple terrain above the tree line hoping for better conditions. It was great to be tour in the deeper powdery snow (~1m). We ventured for one mini lap on a 35 degree NE slope which was quite supportive.
The pit was dug on 1200m 35 degree NE face close to Fraser Peak with 90cm of soft snow. We wanted to get a better understanding of the deeper layers. There is no scientific pretention in the way measurements were made. The isolated column was 25x25xm composed of a mix of first and 4 fingers snow except for a ice crust at 10 cm. A bit of reactivity without propagation was observed on moderate compression test around 60cm from the ground and propagation was observed on top of the ice layer on hard compression test. Note: We did exagerate the compression strength.
