20-50cm of fresh storm snow (very light and dry) sliding on the rigid crust below on any aspect we touched above 25deg incline. 1300-1500m. Some major sluff, some minor slab. Lots of nearby natural activity on steeper features. The small slabs we triggered appeared not to propagate much. Expected to be worse at higher elevation and open slopes based on our observations, but could not venture in those directions at all. There is really just a tremendous amount of new snow fallen in this zone. Conditions felt dramatic.
A rare cold and dry spell for this particular area and elevation.
A variable layer of dry and airy snow seems to be sitting on concrete crust. New snow was very deep in open yet sheltered areas, and very shallow in dense trees, both applied to 1200-1500m, generally West facing. Sometimes hard to get the skis off the crusty floor and into the pow. Fun but very cautious skiing.
