Smooth moves to be had in the toilet bowl today! Lots of fresh snow made for a really enjoyable trip out and pretty decent coverage compared to other places we've been touring this year. That being said, with the recent storm snow covering up the persistent weak layer, we opted for mellow terrain, skiing primarily open, gladed areas. We exercised extra caution on convex, steep slopes due to the forecast being elevated and our pit showing some instability in the surrounding snowpack. We appreciated three guys discussing our 'really nice line choice' from afar. Thanks!
Weather was quite mild. Foggy around treeline and in the alpine (as pictured). Temperatures continued to warm throughout the day. Had likely snowed until later hours of the previous night.
Although today our pit didn't react as quickly as a test completed last week, it still showed us a potentially unstable snowpack. This seems to be the case in convex slopes and in more open-gladed areas. We noticed this both while skiing and observed it in the snowpack analysis sites both this and last weekend. All around great pow skiing, but we definitely played it safe and were very cautious with our uptrack and line selections. We opted for less steep terrain with plenty of runout options.
