In deep in the Apostles

Sea To Sky

Around 80cm of recent storm snow atop the most recent melt freeze crust. Bottomless turns in the apostles and almost too deep to ski the mellower slopes from Oboe summit. Best snow quality was in the trees where it was unconsolidated. No signs of instability observed there. We did hear a decent whumpf around Oboe summit as our group was transitioning. Pole probe showed only 30cm above the crust here so much closer to the weaker layers from early December. There was also a slab property to the storm snow here due to wind. Singing pass is 9/10 with just a few open creek crossings, most of which you can keep your skis on with some creativity.
