Tried to head up to Lone Goat today, turned back at the meadows were the trail disappeared and and open creek took its place ?
We had time to dig and check out the crust at 1600m on a NE asoect. Compression test gave a hard result, but the failure was a break (half in between two crusts and half below the crusts). The snow below is dense and strong.
Decided to play in the meadows and surrounding low angle slopes instead for a while. Felt one settlement while sledding up on a slope, likely the crusts buried around 30cm.
Winds were calm at our location. Saw big cornices overhanging the peaks above us, but no active loading. No avalanche activity was seen in this area, but visibility was limited by the cloud at times. A warm day as well with moist snow below 1300m, it's looking even warmer the next two days....yikes! ?
