Snow picking up mid morning. Moderate to heavy snowfall in the afternoon. Gusty ridgetop winds. Some snow transport along ridgelines.
Snowpack
We observed a well consolidated and strong snowpack where we traveled today. Liquid water was present in the upper snowpack from recent rain. It has begun to freeze and has formed several crusts within the top 18 inches. The 12/10 rain crust is preserved in the middle of the snowpack. Facets below this crust are gaining strength. Pit results indicate no potential for crack propagation at any interface. Basal facets are moist, rounding, and gaining strength. 9,000ft North facing. HS = 135cm (53in)
We cleared 10 inches of snow water equivalent (SWE) from the interval board since 11/25.
Avalanche
We observed one old avalanche (D2) in north facing terrain near Prospect Peak. No other signs of recent avalanche activity.
