Went for a short wander in valley bottom. Surface 4cm of snow was very moist from warm air temps (~0 degrees) and solar warming. Evidence of overnight freeze/crust was present in shaded areas and was breaking down at ~2pm. Beneath this top 4cm, the snow was cold and facetted. Foot penetration was ~80cm in facets. Winds were moderate in valley bottom. Ridgetop winds were strong from the W and SW with significant wind transport and loading well downslope on N aspects. Lee convexities and gully features seen from valley bottom appeared to be filled with wind affect/slab. Sky was broken, trending to overcast in the afternoon.
