5cm layer wind slab on top of reasonably consolidated snowpack. Failed column test - top layer failed only after a significant amount of force Tested before travelling slope with NZAC Wellington snowcraft participants. Snowpack significantly warmer at bottom of pack. Travelled slope without incident, while top crust was loose and breaking up under foot fall. Several other parties travelled the slope throughout the day, including in warm afternoon conditions.
