Type

snowpack

Coordinates

59.636000, -135.155000

Quick Observation

Dug N facing pit on outhouse hill. 10cm of new snow overlies melt/freeze forms from the recent warming. Ice crusts still present, as are two interesting layers of faceted crystals. Base of snowpack contains depth hoar forms. Testing yielded easy but resistant failures on one of the ice crusts. Overall ski quality has the potential to be quite good, as the surface snow is moderately low density and the underlying layers are supportive, even with skis off. Wind ramped up significantly during the day, I suspect that will continue and adversely effect ski quality in wind exposed areas. Picture included of looking into the Eastern (Big Blue / Big Y) drainages. Looking quite thin.

Avalanche Information

Loose slides observed on one south facing slope. Apparently trigger solar warming.

Snowpack

Pit attached.
