Cirque fore-peak

mchernos, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Inversion today: -20C at num-ti-jah at 10am and maybe -5C in alpine. Slight north winds picking up later in afternoon. Snow was quite facetted below tree line and cold temperatures made it feel brittle like styrofoam. At and above treeline facetting was prevalent only in shallow and rocky areas. Alpine snowpack was variable due to wind effect with HS ranging from 40-80cm in most spots. Lots of the north facing runs in this zone are effectively dry and definitely not skiable. We skied some mellow west facing lines in bowls which had filled in better with wind transport. Snow quality was mixed with some nice snow and lots of wind effect. Access to/from alpine is still full of ankle grabbers and car washes.
