Mountain Conditions Report

Skied in the Lake Louise slackcountry today. With careful maneuvering down the ridge of Whitehorn Mountain the skiing into West Bowl was excellent. You would destroy your skis within several turns if you attempted to enter right from the summit ridge. We skied as low as 2150m where the snowpack shrinks to as little as 40cm. But, given that it is so consolidated, travel and coverage of rocky terrain is still good. In the Pipestone Bowl the immediate lee has much better coverage at 2500m. We only noticed wind effect in one isolated area in the alpine which did not react to our skis, and we did not see any recent avalanche activity (except for the constant rumbling coming from across the valley on Mt Victoria)
The temperature stayed cool all day with many convective clouds building at mountain top all day. Having said that below 2000m on steep west aspect the snow was getting moist in the afternoon.
