Quick Observation

Big inversion in Squamish today. Hoped we could get into some steep stuff before temps permeated the snow, but ended up bailing off Gunsight and doing a scenic tour. 11:40am 1350m, air temp +3.5, Tsurface -4C, T10 -6C. 1pm 1670m, air temp +6.5c, Tsurface -1, T10 -1, T20 -5 2:20pm 1750m air temp +9C!!! On non-solar slopes I don't think the warmth penetrated too much more than 10cms. If we get some cold clear nights, we might even get some settled powder skiing back. Not a lot of activity even on solar slopes -- sluffing off steep terrain and cliffs but nothing entraining more than the top 10cms. There's plenty of new snow on top of the wind crust from last weekend. Upwards of 50cm in the alpine (from Tues/Wed storm).
