Matier / Slalok

On Friday, we skied Matier's NW face and the Stonecrop glacier off Slalok. This area did not escape the winds this week, and the alpine was a mix of supportive and breakable windboard with a few pockets of powder. The portion of Matier's NW face that gets afternoon sun (far skier's right) had a breakable surface crust, skier's left had some nice powder midway but back to windboard near the bottom.
Coverage on the glaciers is ok but we could definitely use more snow. The bergschrund at the bottom of Matier's NW face is filled in but it's visible through the snow and there is an obvious hole that you want to avoid (pictured). On Slalok, there are a few holes we noticed in the glacier as we were climbing the ridge dividing it and Matier Glacier.
