South Rockies

The times they are a changing…The high pressure has ended and active weather has returned to the South Rockies. We were in Gardiner Creek today where we observed light precipitation and moderate to strong southerly winds all day. Roughly 15 cm of snow had accumulated by the time we left the field. New wind slabs formed as a result. We observed one size 1.5 naturally triggered avalanche on a northeast aspect at treeline. This new snow has accumulated over a mixed bag of old surfaces including surface hoar and facets in sheltered terrain. This layer will be something to keep an eye on over the coming days and weeks.
