Storming in Rain Gauge

southrockies, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Storm snow and strong wind is the story of the day. We spent the day in the Corbin area on the east side in Rain Gauge. Visibility was poor, and it was snowing heavily with strong southwest winds. Wind slabs were building quickly and 15 cm of snow accumulated through the day. We avoided avalanche terrain by choosing mellow slopes and staying clear of overhead hazards. We did not get any results from our extended column test but did get a resistant result on a compression test down 25cm on a preserved stellar layer above the December 8 crust. Pictured here is an unofficial test to see how the weak layer reacted to a sled when the slab was isolated.
