Tour de Flathead

southrockies, Tuesday 21st January, 2025 12:00PM
Ram Creek --> Cabin Pass --> Flathead --> Harvey loop was our adventure today, and throughout our trip, we saw no signs of new avalanches. The biggest surprise was the trailhead temperature. We were expecting colder temps and some wind but we recorded - 6 at the 16 km staging area on the Lodgepole and - 10 at 1600 m at Cabin Pass. The wind was calm for most of the day until we got to Harvey Pass when it became moderate from the W. We noticed some snow transport in that area as well (there wasn't that much snow to move around!) The snow depth varied between 35 cm at our lowest measurement (right next to the Wigwam at 1100 m) but everywhere else was between 100 cm-130 cm. The sparkly surface snow (near surface-faceting and surface hoar) was beautiful but will be on our radar when new snow starts to fall. Overall, another great day spent in the mountains :)
