While there may not be enough snow to safely navigate through the old growth trees in this area. We were still able to get some valuable information from the snowpack. Currently we are seeing three distinct IFcr layers in BTL at 1600m. The surface of the snow showed rimed Surface Hoar. From local knowledge, down 10cm is the Nov 18th rain layer. This crust ranges from 2cm - .5cm from 1500m to 1700m with the expectation that is it not present as you gain above 1700m. Unfortunately the snow in the trees is below threshold for safe travel. There are facets present above and below this interface. which sits on 1F down 20cm to the next IFcr with small Surface Hoar on top of this 1cm crust. Both layers provided a compression test result of CTM12 Sudden Collapse and CTH22 respectively.
Great group of students and an excellent learning opportunity in early season conditions :D
