Island Alpine Guides AST1 course

Several AST courses took place today on Mt. Washington, focusing primarily on the west ridge within sheltered areas. The snowpack depth ranged from 100-160cm around an elevation of 1400m. Light winds prevailed from the northwest throughout the day, contributing to a slightly chilly atmosphere with temperatures around -4°C. All groups conducted compression tests on southwesterly slopes, yielding consistent results. CTM 12 down 35cm, failing on facets on top of the Melt Freeze Crust (MfCr) sandwich. Surface Hoar measuring up to 4mm was observed in open areas. Despite the challenging conditions, it was an overall positive day, marked by enjoyable skiing experiences for all participants. Island Alpine Guides on Mosaic Forest Management private land under an agreement with the land owner.
