Bottomless Beadnell
Vancouver Island

Full blown Snowarama going down in the Beadnell/Adrian zone today! We staged sleds in 15 cm of moist snow at the bottom of Eden Main, but nicked a lot of rock on the way up and down with carbides touching the road, occasionally even after we reached 50 cm of new snow just below the lower cabin. Truly bottomless pow. We were too shy about whacking hidden stumps in these conditions to try pushing through the cutblocks to the lake or the chute. Hopefully we get a bit more sled support as this snow settles. Active avalanche conditions were obvious even outside of avalanche terrain. Daytime warming began giving the snow an 'upside-down' feeling (denser on top) and we began to see more and more sluggish cracks moving out from our ski tips as we plowed around the road system. We had no doubt that conditions would be downright dangerous in avalanche terrain, especially where wind loading is happening. Even if you could avoid triggering a slab, the dry loose hazard is real too!
