South Rockies

A calm day that started cold but rapidly warmed by mid-afternoon. Reverse loading from the last previous upsloping systems was evident based on south facing cornice formation and the north facing wind scour on alpine/TL ridges. Skiing was great in the gully features that felt well bonded to the underlying, consolidated laminated crusts. Alpine ridges, north facing had basal facets over marginal rain/mf crust with 15-30 cms of recent storm snow over top was punchy. Multiple compression tests on the north/northeast aspect resulted in moderate failures (irregular) down 70 cm below crust complex, overlying facets (2,400 m). No signs of recent avalanches.
