Snow Conditions on Vermillion Peak were awesome, good powder. Skinned to the treeline and dug a pit. Snow wasn't very deep, however a weak layer near the ground was detected. Tests were unsuccessful in triggering the layer. Shortly after the slopes became more convex, whumpfing was observed on three occasions. As we approached a relatively steep convex roll a size 2 avalanche was triggered approx. 3-4ft in front of us. The crown fracture ran about 30m until it reached more supported terrain where it stopped. The slide ran about 15m and was approx. 4ft thick. No one caught or injured in the slide. When they say we are at the point in time when the snowpack is primed for human triggering they mean it, be safe out there everyone.
