Disease ridge

fxtheguide, Thursday 23rd February, 2023 5:30PM

The northerly wind was affecting the surface of the snow, making skiing challenging. We found that the best snow conditions were below the treeline, where the wind was less of a factor. It's important to pay attention to wind patterns when assessing avalanche hazards, especially now wind this reverse wind affect. Even small gullies with slopes less than 30 degrees can still pose avalanche hazards, as we found out when we remotely triggered a wind slab in one of these gullies on Disease Ridge. This is a reminder that we need to be vigilant and aware of potential dangers when we are stepping up from Simple to challenging terrain. Overall, our experience highlights the importance of being knowledgeable about avalanche hazards and knowing how to assess and navigate avalanche terrain.
