Powder "ish" in Little Sand!

southrockies, Thursday 4th January, 2024 4:00PM
We spent the day with low visibility, almost no visibility between 1700 m and 2000 m while we were in the cloud. There were light southwest winds, but no snow was moving around even on exposed ridges. There was a total snowpack depth of 140 cm at 2000 m, which may be the most snow we have seen in a while. There are a few crusts in the mid-pack, the first down 20 to 30 cm (Dec 22) and the second down 70 cm (Dec 5). Our profile was at 2000 m on a southeast-facing slope and we had no results from our snowpack tests. There was still soft snow in sheltered terrain, but on steep south-facing slopes, there was a bit of a crust. Not bad skiing with the lack of new snow.
